This was a fun renovation to be a part of, with high re-use and making the most of what we had to work with, we really transformed this seaside shack! This project included the update and re-invigoration of the main shack and smaller bungalow. The brief aspired for a relaxed, vernacular approach with a Scandinavian vibe mixed in, ensuring to make the most of the existing buildings.
The re-use of the existing 70’s diagonal internal timber lining was an absolute must! The interior palette also included a new ply ceiling, re-seal to the existing hard wood cabinetry and painting throughout to complete the transformation.
Key to this project was the beach-house vibe of simplicity and functionality, as such every design decision was tailored to complement this. The addition of new insulation and improved energy efficiency, bunk beds, a window seat and easy clean flooring all spoke to the shack lifestyle and were all essential inclusions. We definitely had to keep the wood fire, pizza oven and outdoor bath!
This simple and honest reno created the perfect space to unwind, relax, listen to the sound of the ocean and catch a few waves at the beach nearby.

The existing dark brick bungalow was transformed into warm, sunny and family oriented home. The design has strong passive solar features with the most simple but significant one being thermal mass concrete floors with ample northern sun exposure.
