South Hobart Renovation
The brief for this heritage-listed renovation was to create a property for short-term accommodation with the flexibility to be a permanent residence in the future. In addition to this functional brief, the owners wanted a sustainable and ‘funky’ vibe that was easy to be in. Re-use was high on the list of features and we achieved this with some clever internal re-modelling, extensive re-use of timber and reuse of existing pressed tin ceilings. Additionally, the shed door became a dining table and bricks became the wood stove hearth.
Low off-gassing, responsible and sustainable products were used in a balanced way and a high level of craftsmanship. Insulation and building sealing have resulted in high energy efficiency and comfort. Our clients were not afraid of bold colour so we enjoyed the inclusion of primary colours with a more muted natural palette. The interior renovation has been coupled with a rear productive garden for guests to peruse. The overall renovation is respectful of the existing building with simple but comfortable modern living additions.
