Bellerive Extension

This weatherboard home in Bellerive has undergone a renovation and extension to allow more light, better flow, appreciation of the view and easy access to the backyard. This home needed to function well, have a place for everything and be calm and nurturing for a busy family to grow up in.

The rear of the house was previously congested, blocking out the warming northern sun and backyard. Through this renovation we opened up the back of the house to let the northern light in and provide physical and visual access to the outside. A 50m2 new addition stepped up the existing slope to add another bedroom and bathroom. It was important that all the spaces of this home felt connected via view lines but there were also spaces for quiet retreat.

We created a heart for this home: the new central kitchen and service zone connects all the spaces of the home for good flow and function. The central laundry/ pantry / store room makes it easy to chuck a load of washing on while dinner is cooking while you watch the kids play outside from the kitchen.

Life can be busy and if you have the opportunity, improving the flow and functionality of your home can make the sometimes tedious ritual of daily life a little easier and joyful. Previously the home was dark and congested but now it is a joy to be in!
