Golden Valley Small Home
Our one bedroom, one bathroom home in Golden Valley prioritises ‘enoughness’ and refinement. Simplicity is not always easy, but this home nails the ‘make it simple but significant’ brief. Our clients had already done extensive previous work in refining their life before they came to us. They came to us with clear values, which made it easy for us all to arrive at the same expectations and idea of what was ‘enough’.
With a footprint of 96m2, this home is pared back to the essentials, making the most of passive solar design with an exposed slab floor, suitable window specification and high level of insulation along with good cross ventilation. We’ve utilised a refined material palette internally for calmness, and Spotted Gum and Zincalume outside for longevity and to fit the Tassie shed and shack vernacular. The windows were carefully considered to create both internal and external lines of sight. Who wouldn’t love sitting by the fire with a book, looking out into the gum trees, or over the paddock? Having ‘enough’ doesn’t have to mean sacrificing what’s important to you. It’s about working out what it is you value, and letting the rest drop away.
