The Nicholls Rivulet Straw bale home is simple, humble, warm and inviting. The building method of straw bale provides a very healthy, breathable and highly insulating envelope. A very simple structure and modest level of inclusions kept costs low and passive solar principles keep the home warm and prevent overheating. The materials used are local straw, natural clay and lime exterior render from the site, tas oak cladding, painted concrete floor and natural clay render internally with oiled timber joinery. The home is natural, nurturing and warm, minimal storage provides space for what is enough. The home provides the space for the important things in life!
This was Designful's first complete project! It's kind of where it all began. The brief was for a low impact, off grid hut for family and fiends to use as a base for exploring the East Coast of Tasmania and a place for the simple life, for rest and rejuvenation.
